Parking restrictions

To allow for efficient removal of sand and gravel from streets, the following parking restrictions are in place until street sweeping operations are complete:

Residential: No on-street parking between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Downtown: No on-street parking between 12 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Parking maps

Parking in timed zones is enforced from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Residential parking permits

If you live on a street with timed parking limits, including the downtown and hospital parking zones, you can apply for a residential parking permit for $20 per year. Limit of two permits per dwelling.

Before starting:
1. Create/login to a HotSpot account through the mobile app which can be downloaded from the Play Store or Apple Store.
2. Add a vehicle on your account by going to the icon on the upper left hand corner of the app screen>manage my vehicles.
Apply for residential parking permit:
1. Click on the Permits icon on the menu at the bottom of the screen.
2. Select ‘Apply for Special Permit’
3. Select your city and enter the prompted information, once entered, select next.
4. On the next page, it will prompt you to add photos to provide some form of proof of residency (Driver’s Licence, tax bill, utility bill, or vehicle registration)
5. Take the photos and confirm each one after you take them. Once you hit yes after the second
  photo, your application to apply for a residential permit will be sent.
When your application has been approved you will receive an email saying you have been approved for a Residential Permit, you will then be able to log into your HotSpot account and re-purchase for the pass.
Before starting:
1. Create/login to a HotSpot account through the HotSpot website.
2. Add a vehicle on your account by selecting vehicle from the left hand side
  
  menu, then enter your vehicle details and select save.
Apply for residential parking permit:
1. Select Permits from the menu> special permits (Residential/non-residential).
2. At the bottom of the page there is an Apply for Residential Permit application.
3. Attach photo of Proof of Residency (Driver’s Licence, tax bill, utility bill) and a vehicle registration that matches your current address.
When your application has been approved you will receive an email saying you have been approved for a Residential Permit, you will then be able to log into your HotSpot account and re-purchase for the pass.

Downtown parking options

- Free on-street parking downtown is available for up to three consecutive hours except in designated no parking zones.
- Free on-street parking near the hospital is available for up to two consecutive hours except in designated no parking zones.
- Parking in timed zones (downtown and near the hospital) is enforced from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
- On-street parking is prohibited from 12 a.m. to 7 a.m. between October and April.
Daily/Hourly
Parking stalls at the following lots and parkades are available for rent by the hour or by the day.
Parking can be purchased in the Plaza parkade or surface parking lots for $1.50 per hour. Full-day parking passes are available for $8. Parking is free on weekends, statutory holidays, and on weekdays after 5 p.m.
Monthly
The following locations offer monthly stall rentals that require you to buy a parking permit through HotSpot Parking. Rates do not include GST or applicable taxes.
- 2nd Avenue parkade $85 monthly
- 5th Avenue parkade $121 covered monthly, $83 roof-top monthly
- Plaza parkade $95 covered monthly, $66 roof-top monthly
- Westel parkade $123 monthly
- Westel lot $83 monthly
- Royal lot $121 monthly
- Columbus lot $75 monthly
- Earl Brown lot $121 monthly
- George Street parkade $123 monthly (market value stalls)

Downtown Public Library and Civic Plaza lots
- Free parking for patrons of the Prince George Conference & Civic Centre, Downtown Public Library, Two Rivers Gallery or the Canfor Leisure Pool.
- For non-patrons, hourly pay parking is available.
- Vehicle license plates must be registered on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to receive free parking. Register your plate using the QR code inside the facility (no app required) or speak to staff to avoid being ticketed.
City Hall lot
- Free parking on weekends, statutory holidays, and on weekdays after 5 p.m.
- Free parking is available for patrons of the Canfor Leisure Pool across the street in the Civic Plaza Lot. Vehicle license plates must be registered on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to receive a maximum of 3 hours of free parking. Register your plate using the QR code inside the pool facility (no app required) or speak to staff to avoid being ticketed.
- Drop-off and pick-up zone, accessible and senior parking, and EV charging stations are available in front of the pool.

Special downtown parking permits

A special parking permit may be obtained by any social service agency or health care provider, at no cost, for the use of their staff or volunteers. These permits are only applicable while providing services requiring the transportation of clients or patients to and from the downtown or other area that has a posted time limit for parking.
1. Permits will only be issued to the social service agency or health care provider to monitor and ensure proper use.
2. Individuals will not be provided permits.
3. To obtain the permits the social service agency or health care provider must submit a request on their letterhead to Bylaw Services indicating the following information:
  Contact information of an authorized person of the social service agency or health care provider, and contact information for who will manage their permits.
  The type of work the staff do.
  The number of permits they require. The number of permits issued will be determined by the need of each social service agency or health care provider. For example, if there will only be three staff transporting clients to and from the downtown at any given time, only three will be issued even if they may have 20 staff members.
4. The following are the conditions for their use:
  They are for use only when staff are actively transporting clients or patients.
  Permits are only required Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  Permits are to be hung from the rearview mirror only.
  Special parking permits are for on-street parking only and are not valid in any off-street lot unless otherwise allowed by Bylaw Services.
  Any misuse of the permits may result in the social service agency or health care provider having their permits cancelled.
  Permits will expire one year from the date of issue unless otherwise indicated on the permit and must be renewed by the social service agency or health care provider following the requirements outlined in Step 4.
  At the discretion of the Manager of Bylaw Services or designate, special parking permits may also be issued when circumstances deem it necessary.

Bylaw Services may issue one or more volunteer parking permits, at no cost, to any volunteer organization, service club, or group for the use of their volunteers while doing their volunteer work in an area that has a posted time limit for parking.

2. Individuals will not be provided permits.
3. To obtain the permits the organization must submit a request to Bylaw Services, on the organization's letterhead indicating the following information:
  Contact information of an authorized person of the organization, and contact information for who will manage their permits.
  The type of work the volunteers do.
  The number of permits they require. The number of permits issued will be determined by the need of each organization. For example, if there will only be three volunteers parking downtown at any given time, only three will be issued to the organization even if they may have 20 volunteers.
4. The following are the conditions for their use:
  They are for volunteer use only and not for the use of paid employees.
  Permits are only required Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  Permits are to be hung from the rearview mirror only while performing volunteer duties only.
  Volunteer permits are for on-street parking only and are not valid in any off-street lot.
  Any misuse of the permits may result in the organization having its permits cancelled.
5. Permits will expire one year from the date of issue and must be renewed by the organization following the requirements outlined in Step 4.
