Burial pre-planning

Making the necessary preparations for future interment gives peace of mind and helps ensure the deceased's wishes are carried out. Pre-planning also presents opportunities to purchase a burial area near loved ones, which may not always be possible at a later date.

In addition, planning ahead is a sound option against the rising cost of cemetery plots, niches, and crypts. Interest-free payment plans are available for purchases. Contact us for more information:

Corless funeral ledger - 1916 to 1931

Richard (Dick) Corless came to Prince George in 1913 and operated a funeral home business downtown. All of the funerals performed there - including those from the 1918 influenza pandemic - were recorded in a ledger. In 1931, he transferred the business to Assman's Funeral Home. The ledger remained with a family member, who donated it to the BC Archives.

The ledger was subsequently transferred to the Northern BC Archives at UNBC. The UNBC Archives created digital photographs of each page and provided them to the Prince George Genealogical Society, whose members transcribed them in 2008. The records include information about each funeral, the date and place of death and burial, the cause of death, birthday and/or the age of the person, as well as the nationality of foreign-born persons.

The City of Prince George is grateful to the Prince George Genealogical Society for their efforts in giving residents access to this valuable historic information.
