FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Prince George, B.C. – Residents can expect some changes to services ahead of the 2025 Prince George Iceman event on Sunday, February 9.

Traffic will be disrupted between 5 a.m. and 4 p.m. along Foothills Boulevard from Otway Road to 18th Avenue on race day. The race officially begins at 10 a.m.

Traffic impacts to note:

  • There will be two stoppages on Otway Road where traffic will be held briefly while runners cross the road. One near the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club and one near Foothills Boulevard.
  • Southbound Foothills Boulevard will be reduced to a single lane between Otway Road and 18th Avenue.
  • Two signalized intersections (Foothills Boulevard – University Way/15th Avenue intersection and the Ospika Boulevard – 22nd Avenue intersection) will be placed in red-flash during the event, which means they become a 4-way stop.
  • Starting at the Ice Oval, a 5-kilometer run will take place along most roads in the Pinewood subdivision and proceed to Ospika Boulevard via Massey Drive.
  • The bike lane along the north side of Massey Drive from Foot Street to Ospika Boulevard, and along the west side of Ospika Blvd from Massey Drive to the Exhibition Park access will be closed. The sidewalk will still be useable by pedestrians.
  • There will be one stoppage on 18th Avenue where traffic will be held briefly while runners cross the road from Exhibition Park to the Aquatic Centre.

The City of Prince George urges drivers to be cautious and reduce speed while driving in the event area as runners will be on the road and sidewalk.

Drivers and event participants are encouraged to pay close attention to signage and follow directions from traffic control personnel.

The Prince George Aquatic Centre main pool will be closed until approximately 4:30 p.m. for the swimming portion of the event. The wave pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, and gym will be open with regular hours from 10:30 am to 9 p.m.

Three southbound transit stops on Ospika between the Exhibition Park entrance and Massey Drive will be closed during the event. Slight delays are possible. Check the BC Transit alerts page for up-to-date route information.
