FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Prince George – Do you know a pretty and personable pup that has what it takes to be one of Prince George’s next top dog models? The City of Prince George and the local branch of the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) are partnering to launch a photo contest aimed at “discovering” 12 handsome hounds to spotlight in a “Pups of Prince George” 2023 charity calendar.
“We’re very excited to partner with the SPCA on this calendar,” said Charlotte Peters, the City’s bylaw manager. “It’s a great opportunity to showcase some of our pets and hopefully some of our beautiful parks and outdoor spaces while at the same time raising some money for a great cause.”
“A lot of people can’t afford to spay or neuter their pets,” said Kristen Sumner, manager of North Cariboo SPCA, a non-profit. “I’m thrilled we have this fun way to raise money for our spaying and neutering program to help out owners who can’t meet the expense.”
The contest runs from October 12 to November 1, 2022 at 5 p.m. and local photographers – amateur and professional alike – can submit choice photos of their canine companions for consideration. A panel of judges consisting of City and North Cariboo SPCA staff will review the entries and announce winners on Monday November 7, 2022 by email. Submissions will be judged according to creativity, imagination, and overall photo aesthetics. In addition to having their dogs featured in the calendar, winners will also receive a PG prize bag and a gift certificate to a local pet store.
The 1,000-copy limited-run calendar (which will retail for $15) features colour spreads of the lucky pooches (one for each month). The “Pups of Prince George” calendar will be available for purchase by December in time for Christmas.
“The calendar also has tips on responsible pet ownership and stresses the importance of licensing your dog here in the city,” said Peters. “I know what all of my family and friends are getting for Christmas!”
