Council Approves Interest Payment Replacement for 10 Per Cent Penalty
Council voted on February 8, 2021 to permanently eliminate the 10 per cent penalty for late utilities payments in favour of a new interest payment system. This change is expected to take effect in 2022.
There is no penalty in 2021.
The interest rate will be based on the prime lending rate of the principal banker to the Province of B.C. plus the interest rate established in the Taxation (Rural Area) Act (Section 11(3)).
The 10 per cent penalty was removed in the second half of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic as a means to provide financial relief to residents.
