Community association recreation

One of the ways the City of Prince George delivers recreation is through community associations that offer recreation programming, activities and events throughout our City.  Community associations are volunteers that provide low cost and neighbourhood recreation programs and services in Prince George. Community associations are always looking for volunteers to run programs in the neighbourhood school gym, local sport field or the community ice rink.

Although associations are connected to specific neighbourhoods, all can register for their programs regardless of where they live.

Check out the related links list to visit each community association below.

Community association outdoor ice rink program

Did you know that there are 28 community outdoor ice rinks throughout Prince George supported and maintained by your community association volunteers!  The City supports these outdoor ice rinks by providing grants, training volunteers and installing ice rink boards at requested locations.  Ice rink volunteers put in countless hours to flood and maintain these outdoor ice rinks.  These rinks are maintained by volunteers and are unsupervised and protective equipment are strongly recommended when on the ice.

For more information and locations check out the Arenas and Skating webpage.

We need you!

Community associations are always looking for new volunteers. Contact an association to find out more. Some examples of how to get involved include:

  • Coming up with a new program idea and pitching it to a community association.
  • Becoming a board member and assisting in guiding a community association.
  • Helping out with flooding or snow clearing at a community association ice rink.

Parents and their teenaged children may also lead a community association program and gain the following benefits:

  • Volunteerism
  • Leadership
  • Parent and teen bonding
  • Individual growth and development
  • Fun and rewarding experience
