2019 Mid-Sized Cities Outlook Report

The Conference Board of Canada’s 2019 Mid-Sized Cities Outlook features a review of the recent economic history of 31 mid-sized Canadian cities for which comprehensive date are available from Statistics Canada. 

This report provides more detailed information about recent economic history, as well as a two-year-economic forecast for seven featured cities, including Prince George, BC. This report is published annually, to enable public and private decision-makers to benefit from up-to-date, comprehensive insight into the economies of Canada’s mid-sized cities.

Business Retention and Expansion Strategies

The Economic Development division conducts interviews each year with local businesses to collect information that will guide future business retention and expansion projects. Feedback gathered from these meetings are then used as sources with which to generate Business Retention and Expansion Strategy Reports that outline priorities and plans.

Downtown Occupancy Report

The purpose of the Downtown Occupancy Study is to collect and analyze vacancy rates of retail/service and office use building space located in Prince George’s Central Business District (CBD). This report provides valuable information to help identify opportunities for redevelopment and revitalization in the CBD, as well as further downtown objectives proposed from the Official Community Plan (OCP). 

The study examines four main aspects of occupancy in the CBD in Prince George: floor area available to retail/service and office use; vacant and leasable space; commercial high-rise vacancy, and downtown use as a function of the total area.

2019 Workforce Analysis REPORT

The 2019 Workforce Analysis Report presents a comprehensive study of the current state of the local workforce, along with opportunities and challenges, that is intended to inform and support local businesses and the City of Prince George in growing and strengthening the local workforce.

The report offers a detailed overview of the existing workforce situation as well as:

  • Recommendations that will support greater alignment of supply and demand.
  • Information about best and promising practices for talent attraction and retention that can be used by local businesses.
  • Strategies to retain post-secondary graduates.

Entrepreneur Immigration – Regional Pilot

The BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) Entrepreneur Immigration – Regional Pilot is focused on attracting entrepreneurs from around the world to establish businesses in regional communities. This will help meet the communities’ economic development needs and encourage investments outside urban areas.
