Animal Control regulations are meant to encourage and promote responsible pet ownership.

DOGS OWNERSHIP & LICENSING IN THE CITY

Licensing your dog each year should be considered a form of insurance to provide the best chance for the safe return of your family pet if your dog was ever lost or escaped from your property.  The Animal Control Officers shall make every reasonable effort to return a validly licensed dog to their rightful owner for a first offence without penalty.  All unlicensed dogs are impounded in the Animal Pound.  Impounded animals (including unlicensed or licensed dogs)  can be adopted out after 72 hours.  Unlicensed dogs are turned over to the BC SPCA North Cariboo Branch after 72 hours; the SPCA can then adopt the dogs out, including transferring the dogs to other SPCA Branches throughout the province.
