FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Prince George, BC – The City of Prince George will begin work this week on the creation of a new off-leash dog park in College Heights.

The dog park location will be adjacent to the existing community ice rink on Southridge Avenue between St. Anthony Crescent and Dakelh Ti.

College Heights has been due for an off-leash dog park for a number of years. This spot was identified as it is City land, has off street parking, and is in a centralized location.

The City’s Civic Operations team is repurposing the area between the existing parking lot and the outdoor rink.

Construction will begin this week, which includes general utility and earthworks, final surface grading, and fence installation.  The budget for this project comes from the $75,000 approved 2024 capital funding for the ‘Off Leash Area program’.

The goal is to have the off-leash area open and functioning by early summer.

Residents are reminded of the pet park regulations:

  • Dogs must remain under the owner's control and supervision.
  • With the exception of designated off-leash park areas, all pets must be on a leash when in public.
  • Owners must carry a leash with them at all times.
  • Please use the pet waste stations.
  • Please observe pet etiquette rules and all other rules and regulations when visiting a park with pets.

For more information on off-leash parks see the City’s webpage here: Pets & Off-Leash Areas | City of Prince George.
